ALL SET FOR A FANTASTIC PRIDE PARADE
Newcastle will be awash with colour this weekend, when a rainbow parade takes to the streets for a very special occasion in the pride parade.
Newcastle Pride, sponsored by business improvement district, NE1, kicks off on Saturday morning (21 July) with the annual Pride Parade taking over Newcastle city centre.
The parade – which is sponsored by Nando’s, EDF Energy and Ubisoft – starts at 12pm from Newcastle Civic Centre, but those wanting to take part in the march are encouraged to arrive at 11:30am to ensure that it gets off to a timely start.
With a new location for the festival this year, the parade will follow a slightly different route than in previous years, moving down Northumberland Street, onto Blackett Street and along Gallowgate, before following Barrack Road until it reaches Nuns Moor Park, where Newcastle Pride is being held.
Once at the site, festival-goers will be able to make the most of all of the different zones open across the weekend, including the Family Zone, sponsored by Tesco Bank, the Steve Paske Health Zone, sponsored by Siemens and Gentoo and the Rainbow Village, sponsored by Arnold Clark.
And Newcastle Pride will also welcome a host of top stars to the Manchester Airport San Francisco Stage over the weekend, with Alexandra Burke headlining on Saturday and S Club taking the top spot on Sunday.
Festival director, Stephen Willis, said: “After all the planning and hard work that has gone into the event from everyone involved, I am really looking forward to seeing it all come together and it’s going to be a fantastic atmosphere.
“We have strived to make sure that there is something for all ages and identities and are lucky to be able to offer a range of different zones and activities.
“Newcastle Pride couldn’t exist on the scale that it now is without the generous funding from our sponsors and donations from the community and we are really grateful to everyone who has supported the event.”
The festival is free to attend but those who wish to guarantee the best views of the stage can purchase Golden Circle or VIP tickets from Northern Pride’s website.
