SIGN UP TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT A CAREER IN THE ARMED FORCES
YOUNGSTERS can find out how to prepare for a life in the military at a special event in Newcastle this month, to coincide with the launch of three special colleges in the region.
Cardiff-based Military Preparation Colleges (MPCT) -named one of the UK’s 100 best companies by The Sunday Times – is planning to open colleges at Newcastle, South Shields and Bishop Auckland to help prepare young people for a career in the military.
And young men and women keen to sign up can find out more at a launch event at St James’ Park on Thursday 26 July, where they can meet MPCT students, the college senior team, along with the opportunity to enjoy an army-style PT session.
The free event, which is being held in the Bamburgh Suite at NUFC, runs from 11am to 2pm, with the optional PT sessions taking place from 9.30am to 10.30am and from 12.30pm to 1.30 pm.
Military Preparation Colleges around the UK support 16-23-year-olds in their ambition to join the Armed Forces, with courses aimed at all abilities which can help prepare young people for a range of careers.
The Government-funded training provider has been operating since 1999 and now has a network of 26 MPCs, Military Preparation Schools and Sports and Fitness Academies across England and Wales, across 30 locations in all.
Rated Outstanding in All Areas by Ofsted, the MCPT has so far enabled more than 2700 people to prepare for a military career and helped a further 8000 into other areas of employment and training.
At the launch event, potential recruits will meet existing college students who will give presentations and take part in activities and demonstrations to showcase what they have learned.
Huw Lewis, Managing Director of MCPT, said he was delighted that new opportunities were opening up for young people in the North East.
“We have a superb track record in preparing our students for a career in the military and our success rate of those who gain entry in the forces is second to none,” he said.
“We’re hoping we will be able to show what an excellent career route we can offer, giving young people skills not only to enhance their prospects of a career in the Armed Forces but that will help them through life.”
The three new North East Colleges will open at St George’s Barracks, Sandyford Road, Newcastle, the Army Reserve centre, Northfield Gardens, South Shields and The Eden Armoury, St Andrew’s Road, Bishop Auckland.
