Christmas comes early at The Customs House with beautiful ballet performance
The Russian National Ballet is set to perform the world-famous ballet The Nutcracker at The Customs House next month.
There will be two performances of the beloved Christmas classic, which features music by Pyotr I Tchaikovsky, on Sunday, October 6, at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.
It follows the sell-out performances of Swan Lake last year.
The Nutcracker is a vibrant, classical ballet, a family-orientated production with the magic of a fairytale and some added glamour, supplied by the stunning new costumes.
Written by ETA Hoffman, it follows the adventures of a young girl, Marie, who is given a Nutcracker doll for Christmas and enters a dream-like land of magic, where she soon discovers the Nutcracker prince and dances with snowflakes.
It is a highly accessible ballet, full of familiar music such as Waltz of the Flowers and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Set designer Lubov Sidelnikova said: “The Nutcracker is a delightful and sympathetic fairytale constructed around the gemstone of Tchaikovsky’s music.
“With the set design I wanted to embed the perfect dream of a flawless world where everyone is happy and good always triumphs over evil.
“People are always strive to beautify their life and through beauty we try to create harmony and joy. In the set design of The Nutcracker I tried to create a sense of lightness and convey a mood of celebration.”
Tickets for The Nutcracker are priced from £18 and are available from the box office on (0191) 454 1234 or online at www.customshouse.co.uk.
