A New York, New York theme comes to Newcastle with this Grey Goose sponsored New York Themed Ice Bar situated within Stack Newcastle and i was invited down this past week to see the coolest place in town..literally.

If you attended the ice bar last year then you will have a fair idea of what to expect in terms of temperature and offerings, however this year Danieli Holdings brought in a team to create over 20 tonnes worth of ice sculptures. This team had previously created the Game Of Thrones Ice Throne for HBO, Glacial Art. So here we had a team that knew what they were doing. Not only are you able to look at but you touch, can sit on and interact with!

I had been welcomed by staff and asked to select my poncho and given a pair of gloves to wear whilst in the ice bar. This was able to be worn over my already thick jacket that i brought to keep me from freezing. This ws a midweek visit so was deemed an off peak admission. My package that i had would cost £10 for a 20 minute visit to the bar and includes Includes Entry, a Jacket and Glove Hire, an Ice Shot (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and a Hot Chocolate to warm myself up with afterwards. Upgrading to an Adult premium ticket for an extra £5 you can also add a glass of prosecco or bottle of beer to the visit. Once the session was ready into the ice i went!

I enter into the space with the sculptures being kept at a cool -5 degrees which certainly makes it the coolest place to be in Newcastle right now.

The bar itself is obviously made of ice and has a great Silhouette backdrop of New Yorks famous buildings. Here you will be served with your choice of shot, Mine was a toffee flavour of which i would definitely recommend. There is also a cocktail list available for those wishing to have a little more to drink. Again the shots are served up in ice glass.

The space within the bar struck me too. It is incredibly spacious when you take into account the seating areas that they have for you to relax on, with enough standing space for others that nobody is in the way of each other. Meaning everyone gets to admire the sculptures or chill with a drink.

A surprising addition for me was the inclusion of actual items within the ice blocks. i have been to a couple of previous ice bars including London’s famous ice bar and this was something that i have seen previously. Then to add the fact that these items were of importance was impressive. The baseball bat pictured above was Babe Ruth’s bat that he had hit a home run with and the shoes that you see were worn by Sara Jessica Parker in Sex & the City. There are also sculptures of M&M characters with real M&M’s in and a signature display by Tiffany & Co really putting the Ice into the Ice theme.

Typically being New York themed you couldn’t miss out on the two biggest attractions of the city giving you an opportunity to have a picture with them. These sculptures are life size scaled versions and a great picture opportunity.

For many the centre piece and main instagram opportunity will be the ‘Friends’ couch. Fully made of ice and able to sit or lie on to recreate your favorite pose on this fabuloius creation.

Whilst you enjoy your 20 minute session there are staff on hand to help explain or educate you on the pieces that you see and they are more than friendly and helpful. Ask nicely and they may even take a group photo for you!

The Grey Goose Ice Bar is certainly the coolest place in newcastle right now and worth a visit while it is here. So grab your tickets while you can, Read below for further info.
