Newcastle has a thriving music scene and a rich musical history with some great venues for music, with something for everyone.
Pop idols and mega stars, well known bands and tours are all spoilt for choice with some large venues like the iconic St James’ Park and the Utlilita Arena.
The Sage Gateshead is renown for it’s acoustics and brings some of the very best artists to the city. An international home for music and musical discovery, bringing about a widespread and long-term enrichment of the musical life of the North East of England. Their very own in house orchestra the Royal Northern Sinfonia has been delighting audiences across the region and beyond for over 60 years and truly is a local chamber orchestra with a global reputation.
The O2 Academy Newcastle restoration of the legendary music venue the Majestic Ballroom over a decade ago brought music back to this amazing city centre venue, and created a dramatic and atmospheric gig space for some wonderful acts.
The Cluny in trendy Ouseburn is one of a host of venues in that area bringing a wide selection of independent music to the region. Independent venues play an important part in the North East music scene as they are a vital lifeline to upcoming artists early in their careers. The Cumberland Arms, Ernest, The Tanners Arms and Tyne Bar all host regular live music nights and make the Ouseburn valley the musical gem it is today.
A host of venues such as Brewdog, Wylam Brewery, The Boiler Shop, The Mining Institute, Riverside, Northumbria Institute and Think Tank? and Think Tank? Underground bring a wide array of live music to the city, with something for everyone.
Newcastle Theatre Royal and the Tyne Theatre and Opera House have been the venue for many different acts over the years and still continue to bring top names from the world of music. Classical, Opera North, Pop, Big Band and more all walk these boards and bring music to Newcastle.
Newcastle City Hall, the Riverside, Newcastle and Northumbria University all host many gigs and there is always something to see.
The Playhouse Whitley Bay brings many classic 50s and 60’s acts to the coast, as well as tribute bands, musical theatre and more.
