Peace and Loaf co-owners and co-Directors, Chef Dave Coulson and Bob Arora, have recently embarked on a clean-cut, cool refurbishment, at their established restaurant, Peace and Loaf in Jesmond.
Dave told us: “We needed a change, a designed space with flow and soul. We commissioned designers the first time around, but this time around it started with sketches and brainstorming. It evolved with unearthing, teamwork, and intuition. We used the palette that was already there but was hidden. The restaurant flows perfectly now over three floors. All spaces focus towards the hub of the restaurant, and our kitchen pass.”
Dave had complete control over the whole experience. The historic building, which used to be an iron-works forge in the 1920’s, was stripped back to its former glory, and ready for restoration. The interior now oozes raw materials with the use of concrete, and corrugated steel. These were chosen to pair with the unearthing of metalwork, exposed beams, and exposed brickwork. Steel wired lighting, designed by Dave, drops over each table for an intimate setting. Feature walls are layered in customised ink paint to accentuate the character of the original and new details.
Pre-dinner drinks can now be enjoyed seated at the bustling bar area, which serves popular local gins, and funky local beers. Oversized black leather booths together with vintage radiators make for the perfect setting to participate in the restaurant’s prix fixe, à la carte or tasting menu.
Peace and Loaf offer a seasonal menu, only serving the freshest local produce. The restaurant is starting to serve their Autumn offerings, including grouse, turbot and seasonal nuts and berries such as raisins, elderberries, almonds and hazelnuts.
Dave reflects: “Since we’ve grown, the food has too. “The restaurant has won awards such as 5th place in Open Table’s National Top Fifty Dining Venues, and two AA rosettes. “Recognition has been given to us in the 2019 Michelin Guide. “I was extremely grateful for the opportunity, which lead me to achieving runner up on Masterchef: The Professionals in 2010. “We now want to push forward with Chapter 2 and continue to the next level. “The restaurant interior now reflects our future plans and lives up to the reputation of our outstanding food. “I’m very proud of what we, as a team, have achieved.”
Peace and Loaf look forward to sharing their next chapter with loyal and new customers.
