Our Spotlight article this week features Parm-O-Rama.
Cheesy Chips are decent, but have you had a Parmo? This is another business i’ve seen on facebook a lot but never got myself to a venue to try this northern dish! Originating in Middlesborough, it must be the most successful thing to come from the town. (Just kidding!) and has made its way across the north and beyond. It consists of a breaded cutlet of chicken or pork topped with a white béchamel sauce and cheese, commonly cheddar cheese.
Who are you?
Who are the people behind the business?
Myself, Jonny Hesketh. After DJ’ing around the UK for over 15 years, i decided to start Parm-O-Rama after being left disappointed by the poor parmo immitations outside of Teesside.
Why did you start the business?
Was sick of ordering a parmo in Newcastle and it coming with tomato sauce and not bechamel, or when they did come right, I was just left disappointed..
How and when did it start?
It launched in November 2018 after spending weeks perfecting the parmo and the Parmo Wagon was brought to life.
Where are you now compared to when it started?
We now have a permanent unit in the HWKRMKT at By The River Brewery under the Tyne Bridge, as well as taking the Parmo Wagon across the North East to different events.
What’s product is your personal favourite?
Proper Parmo… I’ve been known to eat several a week still even after 2 years!
Do you have any customer favourites?
Hot Shot Parmo, which comes with added spicy chorizo and jalapenos.
Where are you situated?
The Parm-O-Wagon attends various places every week, we post our monthly line up at the beginning of each month on our FB page, and we’ll hopefully be reopening at the HWKRMKT when restrictions allow.
When are you open?
Our service times for the Parmo Wagon are usually 5-8pm and the HWKRMKT is Fridays 5-10pm, Saturdays 12-10pm and Sundays 12-5pm
How do people order?
We offer collection from both the trailer and hwkrmkt and will hopefully be launching a delivery service in the very near future.
People can message us via our FB or Instagram pages, with which event, their order and preferred collection time and we’ll book them in as close as possible and send a secure payment link to confirm their orders.
