It’s been a year in the making, but the doors to the brand new Winlaton veterinary practice are due to open, in a festival of fun over the weekend, later this month.
The owners of Sore Paws in Newton Aycliffe are set to open their second practice in the old Commercial Public House building, Commercial Street, Winlaton and plan a host of activities to keep the animals and their owners entertained during the open weekend of 21st and 22nd September, 10am-4pm.
The whole village has come together for the weekend with a mobile petting zoo, opening offers, food, drink and entertainment to welcome everyone to their new practice. All local businesses have been used as suppliers and the owners, Sarah and Aaron, hope to welcome visitors from far and wide.
Sarah, the resident vet and owner at Winlaton and Newton Aycliffe practices of Sore Paws said:
“It’s taken a lot of blood, sweat, tears and money to get to where we want it to be, but we’ve done it, and we’re overjoyed. It’s taken a full year to renovate, and much of the work has been carried out by ourselves, to save money, but we’re delighted with the results.”
Sarah, who was originally from Winlaton always dreamed of opening a practice in her home town, however never thought it would be possible, until by chance, she saw the old Commercial Public House building up for sale.
The building has been empty for some time and is perfect for a full-service veterinary practice, with plenty of space for a variety of animal treatment rooms, operating theatres as well as consultation and advice areas. It has cost £400K to renovate and will be staffed by 13 employees.
The family-run veterinary clinic promises to offer the same hands-on, friendly approach to everyone and their animals as the Newton Aycliffe branch, but, as the building is almost three times the size of the one in Teesside, then it will be able to offer further services.
“We’ve also got many opening offers, until the end of October, so if you fancy popping through to see us, we’d love to make some introductions to our lovely team – you can take advantage of the incentives that we have at the same time, oh, and feel free to bring your pets, after all, without them, you’re probably not going to need us!”
