Following the breakout success of his debut single Do It Again, Newcastle’s rising star Charlie Floyd is back with his highly anticipated follow-up, ‘Take It or Leave It’, dropping Friday, April 11th. A bold evolution of his sound, this track cements Floyd’s status as one of the UK’s most exciting new voices in indie-pop.
A GROOVE-INFUSED ANTHEM WITH A POWERFUL MESSAGE
Blending gritty guitar tones, pulsating dance beats, and soaring indie hooks, Take It or Leave It takes listeners on a journey through the inner monologue of a relationship at a crossroads. The track’s infectious energy is grounded in Floyd’s signature DIY production style, combining raw authenticity with polished songwriting.
“It’s that moment of clarity in a relationship where you’ve said everything you can say, and all that’s left is to say, ‘Take it or leave it.”
From the very first beat, Take It or Leave It is designed to get people moving. The driving disco-inspired drum groove locks in with a throbbing bassline, while shimmering guitar textures add a touch of 2000s indie nostalgia. As the song unfolds, Floyd masterfully builds tension, leading to a chorus that feels both explosive and liberating—a moment sure to become a crowd favorite at his live shows.
FROM ACOUSTIC DEMO TO DANCEFLOOR ANTHEM
Originally written as a melancholic acoustic song, Floyd took a daring creative leap by flipping its arrangement 180 degrees in production. “I started with an acoustic guitar, thinking it would be a laid-back ballad,” he recalls. “But something told me to push it in a totally different direction – to turn a stripped-back, emotional track into an all-out indie-dance track.”
The result is a track that defies expectations, proving Floyd’s versatility as both a songwriter and producer. Layering mellotron, keyboards, and strings for the first time in his official releases, he adds depth and emotion to the song’s already captivating sonic landscape.
A DEFINING MOMENT IN CHARLIE FLOYD’S RISING CAREER
Hot off the heels of his headline show at Think Tank in Newcastle on April 12th and a massive support slot for Robbie Williams at Come Together Festival on June 4th, Take It or Leave It arrives at a pivotal moment in Floyd’s career.
“This song almost didn’t make the cut for my second single,” Floyd admits. “I wrote it just weeks before heading to London last summer to record, but when I played it to a couple of friends, their reaction made the decision for me. It had to be next.”
With an EP on the horizon, Floyd is carefully building a catalog that defines his identity as an artist—one that blends introspective songwriting with undeniable grooves.
WHAT’S NEXT?
With Take It or Leave It, Floyd is setting the stage for an incredible year ahead. His upcoming live performances will showcase not only his explosive stage presence but also the authentic connection he’s building with his growing fanbase.
“I want my gigs to feel like a party,” he says. “This track, especially the chorus, is made for live crowds. I can already hear them singing it back.”
As he gears up for festival season and works towards his debut EP, Floyd remains focused on one goal: to carve out his own space in music, delivering songs that feel fresh, heartfelt, and impossible to ignore.
