NE:BODY EXHIBITION DRAWS ON An exhibition of work by North East artists has proved so popular it is extending its run.
The NE:BODY exhibition at The Aviary, Brentwood Avenue, Jesmond, Newcastle, which opened in September, was due to draw to a close on 4 October.
But the works, by established and emerging artists from across the region, have proved such as hit with art lovers, that the gallery is keeping them in place until 31 October.
The Aviary specialises in unique pieces of art and alongside oil paintings by well-known North East artists such as Lizzie Rowe, Tom Moore and Gerda Roper, are works by Chris Polunin, finalist in The Contemporary Young Artist Award in 2017 and 2018 and Nick Banks, whose work has been exhibited in The Royal Academy, London.
The exhibition also features work from Teesside-based artist and sculptor, Julia Wager and York’s abstract painter and print maker, David Platts.
NE:BODY displays work from across a whole host of mediums, from traditional paintings to digital art and sculptures.
And director, Trevor Read, said it is the sheer variety of work on display that has been the talking point among visitors.
“We are seeing people come in looking, perhaps, for something quite classical and becoming fascinated by highly contemporary screen prints, for example,” he said.
“The works we have are so varied in terms of both style and price point that there is proving to be something for everyone.
“But one thing most visitors have in common is that they like to come back a couple of times to see the pieces they are drawn to. They might want to bring a family member as well.
“Buying an original piece of art should be a great pleasure – no-one should feel rushed – and that is why we are extending the run.”
Other artists featured in the exhibition include Ruth Bond, Paul Brewster, Pointer, Jane Sanders, Jennine Wilson, Lucy Blake, Annette Bushby, Nic Farr and Heather Moore.
The gallery is also part of the Own Art scheme which means that – subject to passing a credit check – items can be bought over ten months on interest free credit payments.
The NE:BODY exhibition will now run until 31 October and Sunday visits are by appointment only.
