What to look out for in 2024…
Mycelium Network
This fibre optic light installation by artist Stevie Thompson displays mushrooms slowly transitioning through several colours, while the mycelium strobes and pulses create the illusion of movement, akin to a brain sending messages to the human body’s nervous system. “Mycelium Network” will beautifully complement the gardens and architecture in Leazes Park, creating a significant impact and serving as one of the wow factors for this year’s show.
The Lily Show
A stunning, larger-than-life mirrored lily will float on the lake’s still waters, with each petal rimmed with colour-changing neon and illuminated from below the waterline, creating a shimmering effect across the mirrored surface—perfect for capturing beautiful photos!
Debuting in 2024, and sure to be a complete showstopper, The Lily Show will burst to life with a dramatic musical soundtrack and floating barges of lights between the lily and the island.
Rainbow Run
If you’re a fan of Mario Kart, you’ll love this installation, which feels like you’re stepping onto Rainbow Road. This light installation guides guests along a long path, illuminated not just as a rainbow but with lights that change and flow towards you. It’s vibrant, joyful, and mesmerising to watch your feet light up in a multitude of colours.
Sea of Light
The Sea of Light at Northern Lights offers a breathtaking experience with pulsating, animated lights created by the renowned artists behind spectacular displays at Kew Gardens, Blenheim Palace, and Glastonbury Festival (Ithaca Studio). This new adaptation of their large-scale light extravaganza promises an awe-inspiring view of Leazes Park that is simply unmissable!
What can you expect at Northern Lights?
Northern Lights, led by the creators of multi-award-winning events such as Bluedot, Kendal Calling, and Christmas at Bute Park, returns for its second year with 12-15 stunning new installations and magical zones nestled among woodland glades, heritage architecture, statues, and the picturesque lake at Leazes Park.

Ensuring everyone can enjoy the magic of the moment and partake in the festivities, the entire trail is inclusive and accessible via flat, wheelchair-accessible paths, with refreshment areas along the way and ramp access points.
