On World Theatre Day (27th March 2021) Pasha Kovalev and Anya Garnis hosted Rise Up With Arts – a live stream with a stellar cast of performers, raising funds and awareness for arts charities such as The Theatre Support Fund. The event, featuring Brian May, Duncan from Blue, Kevin Clifton and many Variety performance stars, including Pasha and Anya themselves, was a glittering success, so along with plans to make this an annual show, the dancing duo have now put together a bonus package of as yet un-broadcast footage along with highlightsfrom the main event, which will be streamed 14th – 16th May to continue their fundraising efforts for the thousands of people who had their livelihoods disrupted by the closure of theatres dues to the COVID 19 pandemic.
The theatre industry in the UK employs over 270,000 people, many of whom have been unable to receive any kind of support from the UK government during the pandemic. Even though on May 17th we get a step closer to being back to ‘normal’, many theatres will remain closed until the fall season and the ones that will re open will only be at 50% capacity. Anya, whilst not able to perform throughout 2020 and seeing many of her friends and colleagues struggle without a creative outlet, decided to take matters into her own hands and rise up. Contacting her long time dance partner, Pasha Kovalev, they set about creating a show to help the industry that has given so much to them throughout their life.
Through dance, singing and inspirational stories, Rise Up With Arts celebrates the magical connection and transformative power of musical theatre, bringing the best of the best from across the industry, straight into your living rooms! With exclusive performances from stars of Strictly Come Dancing,So You Think You Can Dance, and Dancing With The Stars it’s a magical show, celebrating and honouring the arts in this unique online event, proceeds from which will go towards helping and supporting artists in these difficult times.
