ONE of the North East’s leading hotels is giving a charity event a helping hand to raise half a million pounds.

Ramside Hall Hotel, Golf and Spa, at Durham, is once again hosting the annual Durham Shopping Extravaganza, which this year will take place on Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 October.

This is the event’s 30th – and final – year and, so far, it has raised more than £458k for 99 charities serving the Durham area.

Now organisers, who are all volunteers, are hoping the Shopping Extravaganza, which will be the biggest yet, will take them over the £500k mark.

More than 70 stalls selling everything from food and kitchenware to clothes and jewellery will line the hotel’s Ballroom, Fountain Room and Marquee.

And shoppers can take a well-earned rest break at a Vintage Tearoom within the marquee, specially created for the event by the hotel’s award-winning catering team.

“Ramside Hall Hotel has been a huge supporter of the event over the years and we are delighted it is pulling out all the stops to make this year a success and hopefully help us reach our fundraising target,” said event organiser Nicky Swan.

“We hope as many people as possible will come along and not just snap up some fantastic purchases but also support charities which are really making a difference here in County Durham.”

John Adamson, managing director of Ramside Estates, said he was once again pleased to be giving his support.

“The people of this county and beyond have supported us for decades,” he said, “so if we can help raise money for charities in the area then we are more than happy to step forward.”

The Durham Shopping Extravaganza will take place from 12 noon to 8.30pm on 10 October, with a free drink for shoppers after 5pm, and from 10am to 4pm on 11 October.

Entrance costs £5 per person, payable on the door and further information can be found at
