Welcome to STRATAGEM WITH ALAN PARTRIDGE, a live stage show that promises to inform, educate and entertain in approximately equal measure.
Wearing a head-mic favoured by TED talkers, market hawkers, TV evangelists, backing singers and carnival barkers, Alan will perform a stage show that combines all of these roles and more. It’s a manifesto for the way we can move forward, a roadmap to a better tomorrow, an ABC for the way to be.
This above was the official text sent out as a description of the show…what I say however was this is Classic Alan Partridge.
A strategy, or Stratagem in this instance will be ‘’a fun way to share knowledge that, I believe, will change your life.”
An introduction that only matches the performances of those in Hamilton the musical and further takes on rap introduce us to this modern life coach that is Partridge.
The first interval focusing on the beauty and magic of Theatre and taking reflection in a letter self penned at the age of 11. Using time travel he advises his then self things will be better, and to the future we see him travel to 2065 in a now pedestrianised Norwich town centre, we see a cyber future.
The Second takes us through Strategem a little more closely and see the benefit of people that have benefitted through it all to Alan’s better judgement.
I enjoyed the timing of his pre recorded videos merged with live interaction, and it wouldn’t be Alan Partridge without seeing his beloved Lynn!
We are treated to an impromptu audience member taking to the stage also seeing through Partridges life strategy for what it is..heartbreak and a desire to show he’s doing better without his love.
A medley of 80s classics serenaded us towards the end of the show delightfully.
This was classic Alan Partridge and even in a modern world of which his jokes may be now offensive to some, he shows plenty of relevance to the middle aged crowd that turned up tonight at the Utilita Arena to see him. It’s A (Ha) Star from me for this well scripted two hour show from Steve Coogan and co-writers Neil and Rob Gibbons.
