Tyne Theatre & Opera House
The Tyne Theatre & Opera House has a long and rich history. Originally opened in 1867, the Tyne Theatre and Opera House is a Grade 1 listed theatre. The Tyne Theatre and Opera House operates at the heart of Newcastle city centre, and has been entertaining people from far and wide since it was built.
Just a short walk from Newcastle Central Station, the Tyne Theatre & Opera House is located on the Westgate Road, facing the City wall at the end of Stowell Street.
Tyne Theatre & Opera House has bar facilities on each level selling a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks as well as a range of confectionary.
Tyne Theatre is known in Newcastle for being a go-to venue for world-class comedy with acts such as; James Acaster, Katherine Ryan, Sarah Millican, Joe Lycett, Dylan Moran and Ed Byrne all gracing the stage. Musicians from every genre have also performed on the Tyne Theatre stage. From film-composer John Carpenter, to folk singer Seth Lakeman, blue-eyed soul star Paul Young to Bowie producer Tony Visconti. As well as comedy and music, the theatre hosts a diverse programme including ‘in conversation’ discussions, popular theatre shows and musicals, ballet and opera productions, as well as a variety of other events.
