The Glasshouse International Centre for Music in Gateshead is bringing together independent makers, family activities, live music, food and drink for a Christmas season with something for everyone.

From browsing a Christmas Market by the Tyne to meeting Santa on stage, hunting for mischievous elves and enjoying a festive night out with friends, The Glasshouse is getting ready for Christmas.
Alongside its programme of concerts and shows, the Gateshead venue is offering plenty of ways to make a day or evening of it, with independent shopping, family activities, festive food and group celebrations throughout December.
Christmas shopping by the Tyne
The Glasshouse’s Christmas Market returns on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 December, bringing together around 31 independent traders each day, with a changing selection of stalls across the weekend from 10am to 4pm.
Shoppers can browse handmade ceramics, jewellery, artwork, prints, candles, homeware, decorations and gifts for children, alongside speciality teas, coffee and accessories for four-legged friends.
With everything from small stocking fillers to one-of-a-kind presents, it’s an opportunity to discover independent makers and find something a little different this Christmas.
Santa, elves and little groovers
Families can get into the festive spirit with The Great Glasshouse Elf Hunt, an adventure around the building running on selected dates from 5 to 24 December.

The venue will also host its Christmas Tree and Sign Switch-On on Saturday 5 December at 4pm, leading straight into a Make Music performance on the concourse.
On Monday 21 December, Santa On Stageโฏinvites children into a festive elf workshop, with crafts, games, a film and hot chocolate before heading onto the Sage Two stage to meet Santa, share their wish lists and take home a special gift.

Later that day, Santa’s Little Grooversโฏbrings a family-friendly Christmas disco to the Northern Rock Foundation Hall at 3pm, with festive favourites and plenty of space for little ones to dance.
Music and festive nights out
The Glasshouse’s Christmas Mix Tape programme brings together a range of festive events, including two Christmas ceilidhs on Saturday 19 December.
A Very Merry Family Christmas Ceilidh at 2pm invites families to enjoy an afternoon of live music, dancing and festive fun with Monster Ceilidh. No experience is needed, with a caller guiding everyone through the steps.
The celebrations continue at 7.30pm with Christmas Ceilidh, offering a lively night with friends, live music from Monster Ceilidh and plenty of dancing.
For those looking for something more relaxed, Tea and Tracks: Merry Christmas โ Bing Crosby offers a festive edition of the popular listening event. Grab your tickets for Monday 21 December at 5pm.
