High wire, flying trapeze and the terrifying Wheel of Death come to Gateshead this October half-term
GATESHEAD, OCTOBER 2026 – Metrocentre’s 40th birthday celebrations are about to reach new heights as Gandey’s K-Pop Dragon Circus brings its spectacular Big Top production to Gateshead this October half-term.
Running from Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November 2026 at the Metrocentre Coach Car Park, the production brings together world-class circus, breathtaking aerial performances, comedy, music and a magical dragon adventure in an exhilarating fusion of East and West.
Metrocentre first opened its doors in 1986 and has been part of life in the North East for four decades. Now Gandey’s is joining the celebrations with a birthday spectacular featuring an international company of incredible performers beneath its iconic Big Top.
At the heart of the adventure is the irrepressible La Loka, whose discovery of a baby dragon begins a magical quest to reunite her with her majestic mother.
Along the way, audiences are transported into a colourful world of music, circus and adventure – with some seriously spectacular performances.
High above the circus ring, Gandey’s incredible Flying Trapeze artistes soar through the air, performing breathtaking catches and somersaults with split-second precision.
There are more heart-stopping moments on the High Wire, as performers demonstrate extraordinary balance and nerve metres above the audience.
And if that isn’t enough, prepare for the astonishing Wheel of Death – one of circus entertainment’s most thrilling spectacles, as fearless performers race, leap and balance high above the ground on a giant rotating wheel.
Holding the adventure together is La Loka, bringing the comedy, chaos and infectious energy that Gandey’s audiences have come to love.
All of this unfolds to a high-energy soundtrack featuring K-Pop and huge Western pop anthems, accompanied by spectacular lighting, costumes and production that transforms the Big Top into an immersive world of music, myth and adventure.

Four decades after Metrocentre first welcomed visitors through its doors, families across the North East are invited to celebrate its milestone year with a circus experience that promises to take the birthday celebrations to a whole new level.
