We’ve been hiding something from the people of North Tyneside… and we can finally reveal it!
Playhouse panto favourite and Tynemouth local Daniel “Patsy” Mawston is returning to Whitley Bay this Christmas for an incredible ninth season – but this year audiences are going to see him as they’ve never seen him before.
After years of making Playhouse audiences laugh, Daniel is turning wicked and taking on the role of the Evil Queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Daniel is the longest-serving member of the current Playhouse panto company and has become a real local panto hero, with generations of North Tyneside families growing up watching him every Christmas.
Producer Gary Telfer said: “We’ve been keeping this one quiet for a while! Daniel is such a huge part of the Playhouse panto and, coming back for his ninth season, we wanted to give audiences something they really wouldn’t expect.
“Everyone knows and loves him as Patsy, so the thought of him walking on stage as the Evil Queen and having thousands of people booing him makes me laugh already. He’s going to have great fun with it and I think the audience will too. “Daniel is a local lad from Tynemouth and has earned his place as a real Playhouse panto favourite. Nine seasons is an incredible achievement and I can’t think of a better way to mark it than by turning him completely wicked!”
Daniel joins a fantastic cast headed by another North East favourite, Gateshead’s Michelle Heaton, who takes on the title role of Snow White, alongside Theo Mayne from BBC’s The Traitors as Prince Theodore.
The casting news comes as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs continues to break records at the Playhouse, becoming the fastest-selling pantomime in the venue’s history. Gary added: “The response to Snow White has been fantastic. To have our fastest-selling panto ever before we’ve even reached September is a great position to be in. We’ve got a brilliant cast, a big show planned and plenty more surprises still to come.”
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs runs at PLAYHOUSE Whitley Bay from 4 December 2026 until 3 January 2027. With sales already at record levels, audiences are being encouraged to book early for the most popular dates.
