Review: Chopstix, Trinity Square, Gateshead

This evening we were delighted to be invited to sample Trinity Square’s newest food offering, Chopstix. Situated directly outside the Gateshead Interchange this delightful food outlet offers very tasty meals at very affordable prices.

I spoke with Operations Manager Andrew Higney, he is very proud of this new outlet and of the brand new team who have worked very hard in the run up to last week’s grand opening when customers were lining the streets to get their tasty food boxes packed to the brim with satisfying treats.

Even before you get inside the brightly lit store the aroma coming from the kitchen greets you and tempt you to venture inside. Once inside, and almost uniquely these days, you can see the delicious food you are about to enjoy as it is served right in front of you. The concept is simple: you choose your base whether it be rice or noodles, a tangy sauce of sweet, savoury, or spicy and then two or more toppings from an array of protein packed goodies. I opted for the spicy sauce and a couple of the chicken dishes to complete my box. It was hard to choose which to go for and I mus say that the salt and pepper chicken, which I am told is a customer favourite was absolutely delicious.

Settling down with your meal if you choose to dine in, there is a friendly atmosphere with music you can hear but is not overpowering. The decor is strikingly themed with bold animé style insignia behind the serving area which draws the eye enticingly. The large windows on two sides of the building give a lovely airy feel and there is plenty of window seating available so you can watch the world go by as you eat.

Andrew waxed lyrical about the exciting new venues opening up in the Chopstix family and he is justifiably proud of Trinity Square. He’s also looking forward to opening the next outlet at the MetroCentre in around six week’s time. More information about that as we get it.

The newly formed team at Chopstix, Trinity Square are a credit to the company with warm and friendly greetings afforded to everyone who stepped over the threshold and an equally cheery goodbye and see you soon as they left.

The cost of the meal is by no means exorbitant and is comparable with meal deals offered in other on-the-go eateries. What sets Chopstix apart is being able to see the food you are about to enjoy, a team of workers who are clearly enjoying what they are doing and an ambience that welcomes, warms, and almost demands a return visit.

If you are not too full from your main course then I heartily recommend you sample the delicious doughnuts to follow which are served in a bao bun shape coated in delicious and lip smacking sugar and wickedly sticky caramel syrup to dip them into. It is a naughty but scrummy way to round off an umami-filled tasty box of loveliness and to complete your meal. You can then wash these down with a bottomless soft drink with endless cooling ice.

It may only have been open for a few days but I have no doubt that Chopstix will become a firm fixture and favourite in Trinity Square and will have similar outlets quaking in the boots for the quality, range, and the warm welcome Chopstix has to offer.

We would like to thank Andrew for taking time out of his busy day to spend some time with us. Not content with overseeing the opening of several Chopstix outlets up and down the country and beyond, it was a pleasure to see him rolling up his sleeves and grafting in the kitchen with his young team and leading by example.

This may have been the first time I had sampled the delights of a Chopstix outlet – now that I have it most certainly will not be the last. I have got to try that caramel chicken and the firecracker chicken before too long – they both sound absolutely amazing.

We wish all the team of Chopstix all the best in the coming months and are looking forward to visiting you again soon.
