TIA’S MEXICAN CANTINA IS GOOD TO GO

A NEW Tyneside restaurant which is already proving a hit with diners is now showing it’s good to go.

Tia’s Mexican Cantina restaurant at Newcastle’s The Gate opened just over a month ago and has become hugely popular, thanks to its authentic and extensive menu of Tex Mex favourites.

And now the eatery has made it even easier for people who are in a hurry to enjoy their favourite dishes, after launching a Tia’s To Go service.

Running from noon until 5pm Monday to Friday, people can order on line and then pick up their food direct from the restaurant – which is good news for anyone who hasn’t time to eat in for lunch or wants to avoid cooking at home.

The takeaway menu includes starters of jalapeno poppers, chargrilled Mexican corn on the cob, cauliflower crunch and tortilla chips and dips.

Main courses on the take out menu offer a range of burritos, meat and vegetarian chilli, quesadillas and Picadillo Party Bowl – a beef hash with vegetables cooked in a rich smoke tomato sauce which is served with Mexican rice and tortilla chips.

Mole Poblano, Mexico’s national dish is also on the new version of the menu, with a sauce made of dark chocolate, spices and toasted chillis with either slow-braised pulled beef, chicken or roasted vegetables. Serviced with rice, salad and tortilla chips.

Steven Martin, co-owner of Kaleido Leisure which runs Tia’s and its sister restaurant in Durham, said the decision to launch a takeaway service was as a result of customer inquiries.

“We have been asked a number of times by people passing through The Gate at lunchtimes and early evening if they we did takeaway,” he said.

“For people who don’t have time to dine in the restaurant – for example only having a short lunch break -but still want the Tia’s experience so it made sense to offer them the opportunity to enjoy our food.”
