Launching Tuesday 14th March 2023, US fried chicken giant chooses to pilot Popeyes® Breakfast at Metrocentre and Oxford.
Popeyes is trialling breakfast in the UK – here’s how you can get your hands on it at the Metrocentre
Popeyes® has chosen its Metrocentre restaurant as one of two locations in the UK to pilot its first ever breakfast menu, which is likely to draw queues from fans wanting to get a first taste of their Big Breakfast Rolls, Cajun Hash Browns, and an indulgent Nutella-topped take on its famous Southern buttermilk biscuit.
Launching on Tuesday 14th March, Popeyes® will be serving their brand-new Big Breakfast Rolls [A sausage patty, egg, streaky bacon, and American cheese in a soft bun], a variety of sausage, bacon, egg and cheese muffins, hash browns and their famous Louisiana buttermilk biscuits served with cinnamon sugar or Nutella – giving everyone the chance to experience Popeyes®Breakfast.
In celebration of the launch and to give early risers the chance to wake up with Popeyes®, the US chicken giant will be giving away 50 free muffins* to the first 50 customers in the queue at the Metrocentre on Saturday 18th March 2023, from 8am.
After the huge success of its debut in the North East in August 2022, the team behind the US juggernaut is confident its first breakfast menu experience will be a huge hit, following the hype that saw some diners queuing from 2am to sample their famous chicken sandwich. Their debut saw hours-long queues snaking through the shopping centre, to the tune of a brass brand and family entertainment, that led to reviews stating “The chicken burger 100% lives up to the hype. One of the best burgers I’ve tasted in a long time and the flavour was great. The vibe on day 1 was great and really enjoyed our time here.“
Popeyes® Metrocentre is now one of the highest performing restaurants within in the UK.
Neil Williamson, Popeyes® UK Chief Operating Officer and fellow Geordie, told us: “I am delighted to announce our Metrocentre restaurant has been selected as one of the first two sites to trial our brand-new Breakfast menu. When we launched here last summer, our customers gave Popeyes® such a huge, warm welcome to the region and helped this to become one of our most successful launches to date. Because of this, we knew we wanted to involve them in our menu expansion and give them the chance to try Popeyes® Breakfast first.
Most global brands that come across to the UK are keen to take over the south first and often don’t consider the north until years later. As a Geordie, I always wanted to establish Popeyes® up north in the early stages of our UK expansion… and here we are again with the expansion of our menu to launch Popeyes® Breakfast.”
The brand is remaining tight-lipped for now about whether the trial will roll out nationally, but rumour has it that the highly anticipated drive-thru roll-out is well underway.
The full menu includes:
● A Big breakfast roll and bacon roll
● Double or single bacon, egg and cheese muffins
● Double or single sausage, egg and cheese muffins
● Hash browns & Cajun hash browns
● Cinnamon sugar buttermilk biscuits
● Buttermilk biscuit with Nutella
● Egg and cheese muffins
● Tea and coffees, including lattes, flat whites, cappuccinos and more
Starting from only £2.99, each item can be turned into a meal with a hash brown and regular drink. The star of the show is the Big Breakfast Roll for £4.29, which comes with a sausage patty, egg, crisp streaky bacon, and American-style cheese in a soft bun.
Popeyes® at the Metrocentre is located on the ground floor of the Yellow Mall Qube and seats up to 98 people.
