THE LADYBOYS OF BANGKOK 2019 Review

The Ladyboys of Bangkok return in the ‘Greatest Showgirls Tour’

The Ladyboys of Bangkok return to Times Square with their yearly institution of laughs and pure cabaret nights with this years ‘Greatest Showgirls Tour’

If you haven’t seen the Ladyboys before and i hadn’t prior to this, then i’ll explain. They are a cabaret troupe of 16 performers – all male who dress this year as the greatest showgirls. A drag act some will say but they are much more than that. A truly fantastic bunch of performers. We at InNewcastle.co.uk were gifted tickets to review the show.

Seated on shared round tables you could sense the party atmosphere in the pavillion tonight from the first moment, drinks on tables, all ages gathered and groups of male, female and mixed ready for a party.

Starting the show we had a brilliant introduction of feathers and song highlighting all the performers we were to see for the night.

Celebrating the best in artists we hear songs from Kylie, Jennifer Lopez, Whitney Houston, Queen, Little Mix, M People and more. As well as song we see some incredible dance routines that take lace on both the main stage and the bar itself as well as comedic sketches throughout.

We got to see in total 400 costumes in this 2 hour show -thats 25 per cast member! with sequins and colour everywhere. Audience participation was encouraged in terms of being allowed to take photos and video.

A nervy bit for some but exciting for other were when the Ladyboys came through the audience to pick some willing participants for parts of the show which included a Carpool Karaoke Sketch, The In the Navy/Titanic Sketch (which the volunteer on this occasion) fully embraced and used his 5 minutes of fame effectively.

Standout performances were that of Whitney Houstons ‘I will always love you’, Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way’ and the Queen Montage that have the audience pulling off their best Freddie impressions and some dancing in front of the stage.

With a title of ‘The Greatest Showgirls’ it was inevitable we were to have a link to the Greatest Showman Film and so we did at the finale of the show with the hit ‘This is me’ followed by ‘Come Alive’. A fitting and worthy way of finishing i thought.

This is a night of Riotous Comedy, Dance and All round fantastic Entertainment and definaltey reccomend you get down to Times Square too see it before it leaves for another year!
