Sorry, you can’t poo here

Emerging local theatre company make their North East Debut with a new one-woman chronic illness cabaret- Sorry, You Can’t Poo Here…

Tell U Wot Theatre presents a one woman show about living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease told via a chronic illness cabaret.
Tell U Wot Theatre bring their new show Sorry You Can’t Poo Here to the North East for the very first time. Following their suc- cess of being shortlisted for the 2023 LET Award at Greenwich Theatre, Tell U Wot are excited to share their show with North East audiences as part of the new season of work at Laurels Theatre in Whitley Bay.

Sorry You Can’t Poo Here follows the char- acter of Polly (played by Georgia Polly-Tay- lor) in her journey of radical self-love and acceptance as a young woman being diag- nosed with Crohn’s Disease. The show is also written by Georgia, her previous work includes The A-CARE-IUM (Tell U Wot Thea- tre) and audiences can expect laughter, singing, dancing, a burlesque routine and even a glittery toilet as they are welcomed into the chronic illness club.

Directed by local theatre maker Allison Birt (previous Director credits include Golden Hour, Al- phabetti, The A-CARE-IUM, Tell U Wot Theatre) the show is a celebration of self and overcoming ad- versity. Anyone who lives with a chronic illness (be it Crohns, IBD, or something else) can enjoy and relate to the absurd world of Polly’s bathroom come Cabaret Club. Tell U Wot are excited to bring their feminist and queer flair to Whitley Bay, and hope to meet new audiences and a community of fellow legends living with chronic illnesses (or just legends who enjoy queer and feminist theatre).

On explaining the importance this show , writer and performer Georgia Polly-Taylor said: ‘It’s 2023 and more people than ever have some sort of health diagnosis. Physical or mental, visible or not- eve- ryone either has experienced health problems or will at some point. This show is about shame re- moval, celebration of self and building a community that says chronic illness doesn’t change a per- son’s worth. If anything, it adds to their ‘them-ness’’.

Tell U Wot are an emerging queer theatre company, based in London and Newcastle. The company first formed at Rose Bruford College in 2021 – Georgia and Allison have been making theatre that is funny and unafraid in pub venues ever since. Most recently they were shortlisted for the 2023 LET Award with Sorry You Can’t Poo Here and hope to continue touring the show around the UK.

Following their previous show The A-CARE-IUM, audiences said:

‘I think people should watch the show if they want to be on the ground floor of the next big comedy group. You wanna get in there early. I think Tell U Wot, Georgia and Allison, are definitely the start.’

‘I don’t think I’ve ever laughed that much watching something!’
