Altitude Newcastle brings Ibiza to the Toon

Yesterday afternoon we visited Altitude Newcastle, the latest rooftop sky bar to open in the centre of Newcastle. 

Situated around 99 steps up if I counted correctly this is this new rooftop space from Mike Hesketh. If you’re not sure who that name is, your more likely to recognise recent successes such as Central Park Newcastle (which sadly wasn’t able to return this year) and and Moosenwirt Christmas bar on Grey St which appeared last year. Both of which I’m sure you will have seen and visited either one, as well as his restaurant Horticulture and Bar Pepo.

With Altitude Newcastle he has created a wonderful balearic experience. With bamboo and leafy lined walls, sky views of St James Park and the city, you are transported to the summer vibes of Ibiza. 

I visited in the afternoon and was graced with beautiful sunshine. With DJ’s, dancers on a podium and a choice of cushioned seating available I genuinely felt I was at a chilled day party. The atmosphere was really relaxed which let us sit, sip on cocktails and chat away with the sunshine beaming down on us in this sun trap. The music wasn’t overpowering and visitors able to chat away. You almost forget you’re in Newcastle when you sit back and relax. The venue is fully heated too to accommodate for colder days.

Cocktails are priced at £8.50 and there’s a good mix of choice from Blue Skies, Nice Melons, Kiwi-Osity, Sweet-Tooth Sorbet, Rhubarb On The Roof, Mile High Martini, Life’s a Peach and Coco Clouds.

Cans of beer are available for around £5.50. I’ve been informed Corona and Camden are being installed this week for draught drinkers too. 

Balearic Brunch Deals will also be available on Saturdays priced at between £30-£40pp with pizza from local foodies Gingerinos with House Ibiza classics and cocktails prosecco and beer/cider included. Bookable via the website (that goes live later this week at www.altitudenewcastle.com)

It is a fantastic use of space and I’m sure it’s going to be a definite hit this summer. Roll on the sunshine and visit Ibiza whilst staying on your doorstep.
