Disney On Ice announces spectacular new show for Newcastle’s Utilita Arena

A new ice show extravaganza will be whirling into Newcastle this winter bringing a heart-warming reunion with favourite Disney characters.

Disney On Ice presents Road Trip Adventures will be making its city debut at Utilita Arena in November, promising young fans a new trip to iconic Disney locations ranging from Mary Poppins’ atmospheric London to Moana’s sunny island of Motunui. And, in the company of the much-loved children’s character hosts, audiences will be treated to not only some dazzling skating but also aerial acrobatics in show

Tickets for its November 20-24 run will go on pre-sale to priority customers this Friday, May 17 followed by general sale a week later, on Friday, May 24. Disney On Ice visits are always a hit with Newcastle audiences – with the arena being transformed into an sea of Mickey Mouse ears as young fans dress up for the annual occasion – and this year’s visit is part of a new European tour offering fans a chance to see Road Trip Adventures for the first time.

The ice show will conjure up a Disney Kingdom, hosting a mix of new and classic tales, with Mickey Mouse and his pals – including Minnie and Goofy – introducing a whole host of Disney and Pixar adventures including Mary Poppins Returns; Toy Story 4; Incredibles 2; The Lion King; Aladdin; Moana and Frozen. And their stories will take in the likes of the Pride Lands with Simba and co; Aladdin’s parade featuring stunts and the magical Genie, and a new song from Jasmine.

Other highlights will include a larger-than-life comedic carnival with Toy Story favourites and a medley of Disney hits as princesses Merida; Belle; Ariel; Mulan and Tiana take to the ice.

The huge production involves a big back-stage team of choreographers and designers and involves more than 100 props and 275 costumes, which will be arriving in Newcastle in 17 trucks for the show which will take around 14 hours to set up. Steven Armstrong, regional vice-president of its producer Feld Entertainment, said: “Road Trip Adventures is one of the newest Disney On Ice shows created.

“This spectacular production includes high-level technology, mind-boggling stunts and stunning scenography.” And he says the team is looking forward to its North East return with the ‘magical adventure’.

Caroline James, general manager of Utilita Arena, added that the venue’s team always looks forward to Disney bringing its magic to the building. This year’s show is jam-packed with many firm favourites as well as introducing exciting new additions like Mary Poppins Returns and Incredibles 2,” she said.

And she called Disney’s regular pre-Christmas treat “a memory-making night out” for families. Those keen to get their hands on early tickets for the new show can take advantage of pre-sale opportunities, which are available to priority customers, on May 17 from 9am.
