Imaginary Friends
Alphabetti Theatre, ARC Stockton & Daniel Bye presents the World Premiere of Imaginary Friends.
Welcome to the distorted mirror-world of Imaginary Friends, award-winning writer-performer Daniel Bye’s first new solo show for seven years. This is a major event.
A recently-bereaved TV comic finds comfort in his imaginary friends. They’re terrible people and he knows it. But it’s a terrible world, right? And the ideas they’re coming up for his show are terrific.
The results are controversial – but in the attention economy, that’s rocket fuel! And isn’t it OK to go to extremes, so long as you’re on the right side of history? Meanwhile, the imaginary friends get louder. How do you tell whose advice is good in a world with the volume permanently turned to full?
Daniel Bye is an award-winning writer, performer and director for the stage. His work as writer- performer includes The Price of Everything, Going Viral (Fringe First 2015), Instructions for Border Crossing, Arthur (Fringe First 2019) and How to Occupy an Oil Rig. Most recently he co-wrote and performed These Hills Are Ours with singer-songwriter Boff Whalley (Chumbawamba).
Bye’s trademark brand of hilarious and mind-bending storytelling will take you on a wild trip through the looking glass, visiting the abandoned buildings of the future, and dancing with the creatures under the bed.
Don’t miss this unique storytelling adventure that asks whether, in the end, people aren’t quite as bad as they seem. Now that’s controversial.
