Liam Fender teams up with a Gospel choir for his biggest ever show!

Acclaimed North Shields-based singer-songwriter Liam Fender is set to join forces with the dynamic Voices of Virtue gospel choir for an unforgettable musical experience at Newcastle’s Boiler Shop on 17 May.

The collaboration, set to captivate audiences with its fusion of striking melodies and rich harmonies, promises to redefine live performances in the region.

Fender, born and bred of course on Tyneside, found his passion for music at an early age.

Liam embarked on a musical journey that led him to become one of the most promising talents in the North East’s vibrant music scene.

Liam – who’s debut 2023 EP ‘Love Will’ earned him national acclaim and confirmed his arrival as one of the UK’s finest songwriting storytellers – will perform a show at Tyne Bank Brewery (30th May) in Newcastle before turning his attention to his most ambitious show to date at the massive 1,000 capacity Boiler Shop.

He said: “It’s the bands first full outing this year so everyone is itching to get back out there. There’s a sense it gets better with every show. Expect some new material and new arrangements at the Boiler Shop show.

“This gig is an idea that has been in the back of my mind for some time and when it was suggested to me I thought, why not. I love gospel music and choral music and figured it would be interesting at least to hear my material with that treatment. This will be our biggest show to date.”

From his humble beginnings tinkering with an ‘Alba Ghetto Blaster’ to gracing stages with heartfelt performances, Liam’s evolution as an artist has captivated the hearts of a region.

Joining him in this groundbreaking project is the Newcastle-based Voices of Virtue gospel choir – a collective known for their emotive sound and captivating live shows that have left audiences spellbound across the region. Voices of Virtue have earned a reputation for excellence, filling venues with their powerful harmonies and soul-stirring music.

The groundbreaking show is led by visionary Tyneside concert promoter Paul James. Known to frequently work alongside celebrities such as Jason Cook, Chris Ramsey, Nolberto Solano and Alan Shearer, Paul helms the NorthEastFUSE project, which brings together disparate cultural artists for special one-off collaborative concerts.

Speaking about the collaboration, Fender shared his excitement, stating, “It’s been a really good start, the project has had a great response so far. Everything I write comes from a real place so I guess people connect to that. Live-wise, I think the synergy between the band really pulls people in. It’s seven guys really in the moment and loving what we’re doing.”

The union of Liam Fender and Voices of Virtue marks a significant milestone in the North East’s musical landscape.

Drawing on Liam’s poignant lyrics and melodious compositions inspired by the unique people and places of Tyneside, coupled with the choir’s powerful vocals and infectious energy, the collaboration promises to deliver an electrifying performance unlike any other.

As he himself puts it, “It’s the perfect marriage of heartfelt songwriting and soul-stirring gospel music.”

Reflecting on the project, promoter Paul James shared his excitement, stating: “Combining Liam’s songs with this incredible choir will produce one of the most exceptional performances of the year. It’s a testament to the power of collaboration and the magic that happens when artists from different backgrounds come together to create something truly special.”

The upcoming show promises to be a highlight of the musical calendar, with Fender and Voices of Virtue delivering an electrifying performance that pushes boundaries and transcends genres. As he aptly puts it, “This will be our biggest show to date. VoV are at the very top of their game and to hear that huge sound filling the room is definitely something I can’t wait for.”
