The People’s Theatre in Heaton are celebrating a windfall this week in side-splitting, feel good comedy LUCKY NUMBERS by Mike Yeaman!
When Nana wins a multi-million pound jackpot on the Lottery, her feckless family think they’re going to be laughing all the way to the bank. But Nana has other ideas and decides it’s time for things to change before she’ll hand over any of the cash. That is, if she can remember where she’s put her winning ticket!
This laugh-out-loud funny and heart-warming comedy returns to the People’s fifteen years since its premiere as the winner of their People’s Play Award: “keeps us hooked until the very end … had the audiences howling from start to finish” – The Journal. In that time, the play has delighted audiences across the country and across the world, with hit productions in Estonia, Finland and New Zealand!
Writer Mike Yeaman comments: “It’s lovely that ‘Lucky Numbers’ is back where it started 15 years ago. And wonderful that Pat is reprising her role as Nana. She is International Nana No.1 as far as I’m concerned!”
Mike, who was a member of the Young People’s Theatre in his teens, has written for Radio 4, including a co-written sitcom Kathmandu or Bust starring David Haig and Afternoon Plays, Boxing Clever starring Thelma Barlow and Going For Broke starring Les Dennis. He has also written for shows such as Smack The Pony and Spitting Image. His other stage plays include Canoeing For Beginners and Frank Sumatra. LUCKY NUMBERSwas his first stage play and he adds: “Winning the People’s Play Award gave me confidence as a writer and has led to me visiting theatres and meeting lovely theatre folk in all kinds of places.”

Due to essential maintenance work on the theatre’s Main Stage, both of these productions are now playing in their smaller Studio Theatre and they’ve added extra performances to meet demand. Book now to avoid disappointment!
