Northern Pride brings fun for the whole family to Ouseburn

BOOK READINGS, tunnel tours and a whole host of workshops are all on the cards for a free day of fun aimed at LGBTQ+ families next month (September).

Northern Pride has teamed up with Ouseburn Trust to host Ouseburn Family Pride on 19 September, with a variety of activities for all ages to enjoy from 10am to 4pm.

Venues across Ouseburn Valley have signed up to take part, with the opportunity for little ones to meet the animals at Ouseburn Farm and enjoy live music and performances at The Cluny.

And the LGBTQ+ charity has also partnered with the Victoria Tunnel to provide free tours throughout the day.

Families can enjoy a reading with LGBTQ+ educator Pop’n’Olly or head to Seven Stories to hear Gareth Peter and Gary Parsons sharing their new book, My Daddies.

LGBTQ+ arts organisation, Curious Arts, will be showcasing its popular performance pieces, Wildflower and Mini Pride, and ATOMs Education will host drop-in workshops covering a variety of themes, including science and music.

Nimerta Virdee, Family and Youth Officer at Northern Pride, is confident the event will be a hit.

“Ouseburn Family Pride is shaping up to be a excellent day out for all ages and we have a really excitingprogramme planned,” he said.

“We wanted to put together an event where LGBTQ+ families and young people can come together and meet others in the community in a space designed just for them.

“Ouseburn is a fantastic location and a real hub of activity and events, so we’re delighted to have so many venues on board to celebrate the day.”

Maria Baranowska, marketing and communications officer at Ouseburn Trust, is proud to be supporting the event.

“We are delighted to be teaming up with Northern Pride to deliver Ouseburn Family Pride,” she said.

“From food and drink at The Ship to live music at The Cluny and everything in between, there’s something for everyone throughout the day and we are looking forward to showcasing all that Ouseburn has to offer.”

The Victoria Tunnel will be offering taster tours throughout the day and while no booking is required, visitors may have to queue to enter.
