A Taste of Six: Six Rooftop launches new experiences and menus
A Taste of SIX: Fine Dining Restaurant SIX Rooftop launches new culinary experiences, including two six-course tasting menus and a Chef’s Table
SIX Rooftop, which is situated upon the top floor of the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art on Gateshead’s Quayside, has re-launched its fine dining restaurant to include new tasting menus (Land & Sea, as well as Plant-Based) and a more casual lounge menu that is designed to graze and share. Its new offering will see the rooftop restaurant execute fine dining in the North East, as it develops its 15-year history into a mouth-watering dining experience overlooking the Tyne from its scenic dining room, Viewing Box, and new Chef’s Table.
Named ‘Taste of SIX’, its two new tasting menus are inspired by SIX’s ethos to serve elegant dishes crafted from the best seasonal local and British produce. The highlights from their ‘Land and Sea’ Tasting Menu includes: Portland Crab (White Crab, Shellfish Custard, Pickled Turnips, Horseradish, Almond), Dexter Beef (Ribeye, Glazed Cheek, Alliums, Potato, Red Wine Sauce) and Carrot Cake (Spiced Carrot Cake, Mango, Pineapple, Coconut, Coffee Gelato)
Highlights from their ‘Taste of SIX Plant’ Tasting Menu includes: Beetroot (Salt Baked Beetroot, Smoked Walnut Emulsion, Morello Cherry) and Mushroom (BBQ King Oyster, Crispy Portobello, Yeasted Parsnip, Malt Jus) and Dark Chocolate (Cremeux, Sour Cherry Gelato, Crispy Buckwheat).
For a more relaxed dining option, SIX Rooftop is also offering the option for a light snack, small plates, sweet treats from its Lounge Menu, served within the new state-of-the-art bar — a perfect setting to complement dining with a wide range of drinks, including cocktails, wine, beer and non-alcoholic drinks.
Highlights from the Lounge Menu includes: Gloucester Old Spot Pork Crackling, Bramley Apple (from the snacks menu), Tácnbora Whisky, Cured Trout, Cucumber, Horseradish (from the small plates menu), Glazed Gloucester Old Spot Ham Shank, Apple Chutney, Fried Egg, Watercress Salad (from this week’s specials menu), and Sticky Toffee Pudding, Butterscotch Sauce, Vanilla Gelato (from the dessert menu).
The new bar at SIX Rooftop also positions the stunning venue as a cocktail destination, perfectly accompanying the lounge menu. The extensive cocktail list presents an exceptional mix of ingredients from local suppliers, including Ad Gefrin in Northumberland. Highlights from the menu include English Seventy-SIX 12, English Pimms Spritz and Northumbrian Iced Tea, as well as four types of Espresso Martinis (Classic, Hazelnut, Caramel, Tiramisu).
The tasting menus provided by SIX Rooftop offer one of the region’s most competitively priced tasting menus (Lunch £45, Dinner £54), with an optional Wine Flight for an additional £35. The Lounge menu offers most snacks under £7, small plates under £12 and sweet treats under £8.
For those seeking an intimate culinary journey, SIX Rooftop’s new Chef’s Table accommodates parties of up to four, allowing guests to enjoy the show of culinary magic in the kitchen.
In addition, SIX Rooftop also includes private dining on the fifth floor of Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, giving guests a beautiful, scenic space to host private celebrations and intimate dinner parties, alternatively, the entirety of SIX Rooftop can be hired.
Food Director Greg Lambert continues to lead the culinary direction at SIX Rooftop, with menus that shape fine dining in the North East. He blends the brand’s 15-year history and ethos of sourcing fresh, local and British ingredients from land, sea, and plant-based origins with a complementary ambience that promises special experience for every guest.
Food Director, Greg Lambert, shares his thoughts on the new SIX Rooftop ‘’After 15 years of trading it was definitely time for a face lift. When the opportunity came for us to close for a month and relaunch, we immediately knew the approach we wanted and needed to take. We set our heart on operating an exciting, fine dining restaurant that remained affordable and accessible to our customers whilst attracting new faces.
We have always been passionate about sourcing our ingredients and produce from the bounty of local and British artisans, so this was never going to change. We have added even more suppliers so we can source the best possible products for our chefs to work with and this is reflected in the flavour of our dishes.
In 2023 we hosted three ticketed evenings dedicated to plant-based tasting menus and the response was overwhelmingly positive, but also the reservations grew for each event. Proving its popularity, we decided we wanted to take on the challenge of plant-based fine dining and began designing our new plant-based tasting menu, which has already proved to be very successful.
The Quayside’s legendary SIX Rooftop restaurant reopened on 13th February 2024, following an extensive refurbishment during the brand’s 15th anniversary.
In November 2023, Middlesbrough-based Pneuma Group acquired SIX Rooftop, marking a new chapter for the restaurant. The acquisition forms part of Pneuma Group’s ambitions to invest in areas where it can improve the built environment within the region and create an even better and more successful place for people to live, work, and socialise.
