What’s On Tyne Theatre April 2023

The Tyne Theatre and Opera House in Newcastle upon Tyne is thrilled to present a diverse lineup of events for April 2023 that is sure to offer something special for everyone.

On Wednesday 5th April, Tyne Audio presents ‘The Show Must Go On Live in the Bistro Bar’. It will be an evening of musical theatre where local theatre talent will take to the stage at the Bistro Bar for an evening of entertainment. Additionally, the money raised will be donated to the Tyne Theatre to support the ongoing work to preserve this historic theatre.

On Thursday 6th April, actress and businesswoman Priscilla Presley makes a statement announcement of her first-ever UK tour called ‘An Evening with Priscilla Presley’. In conversation with Radio and TV presenter Edith Bowman, the former chairwoman of Elvis Presley Enterprises will share personal stories from her illustrious career, life, and marriage to the King of Rock n Roll. From home footage to her journey as an actress and co-founder of one of the top tourist attractions owned by Elvis, audiences are in for a treat with this exclusive event.

For the weekend of Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th April, The Tyne Theatre and Opera House will treat audiences to its Easter Panto, ‘Rapunzel’! Starring comedy legend Bobby Davro, Britain’s Got Talent winner Matt Pagan, and Tyne Theatre panto favourite Lewis Denny. With energetic dance routines, impressive music, and heaps of audience participation, don’t miss another fun-filled Easter pantomime from the same team behind The Wizard of Oz and Beauty and the Beast.

From Wednesday 12th to Saturday 15th April, WEOS Musical Productions are returning to the Tyne Theatre stage with Fiddler on the Roof. The production company is renowned for previous musical successes such as Top Hat, My Fair Lady, and The Sound of Music. In this iconic musical, the story follows Tevye, a milkman in the settlement of Anatevka, as he tries to maintain his Jewish religious and cultural traditions in the face of his daughter’s strong-willed independent actions.

On Monday 17th April, the cultural satirist and author Fran Lebowitz will be discussing insights that are cutting and forthright. Known for her dry and hilarious commentary on different aspects of American life, she brings a fresh take on topical issues such as gender, race, gay rights, and the media, as well as on her own pet peeves. It is a chance to catch her live in conversation, sharing her thoughts as a social commentator.

Come Thursday 20th April, Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band will be celebrating the release of their ‘Trouble Is…25’ by taking to the stage with iconic album songs at the Tyne Theatre. The artist has established himself as an immensely popular recording artist and a consistently in-demand live act, and an influential force in a worldwide resurgence of interest in the blues.

On Friday 21st April, The Test Match Special team is coming to town – this time around, the Ashes are at stake! Glenn McGrath and Jonathan ‘Aggers’ Agnew – two well-known cricketing legends will be in conversation, sharing their experiences and memories of past experiences. It is a chance for audiences to ask questions, hear the inside scoop on England’s wins in 2005 and 2010/11, and experience game commentary.

Finally, on Saturday 22nd April, be sure to experience the unique One of a kind film and music experience, ‘The Magical Music of Harry Potter – Live in Concert with The Weasleys’. Hosted by original actors, the show will feature a symphonic orchestra, soloists, and choir, bringing to life the most significant musical moments from the films. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Harry Potter fans to lose themselves in the magical world of film.

On Wednesday 26th April, join Emmy-winning writer and Golden Globe-nominated actor, comedian, and director Bob Odenkirk as he recounts his twists and turns of comedy career life live on stage. Celebrating the paperback publication of his Sunday Times bestselling book Comedy, Comedy, Comedy, Drama, Odenkirk will take audiences on a journey of his work on infamous cult comedy Mr. Show, as a writer and performer on legendary series such as The Larry Sanders Show and Saturday Night Live, and becoming everyone’s favourite lawyer in global hit TV series’ Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. He will also talk about his experience working with Steven Spielberg and Greta Gerwig and re-re-reinventing himself as an action film ass-kicker at fifty in Nobody.
