Starting on Friday, 4th June, Xena Self Defense Classes for women are coming to Gosforth High Street. This is a unique opportunity to learn the tactics, techniques, and thinking of the most effective self defence system in the world.
Feel safer while going to and from work or walking alone. Know what you can do to combat street harassment or unwanted attention in clubs or bars. Protect yourself against domestic violence, sexual assault, and unprovoked attack with basic self defence skills.
Cheish Merryweather, founder of Xena Self Defence Classes, said: “I am very excited to bring such a great opportunity for women to pick up new life skills in Newcastle. It covers everything! There are de-escalation/avoidance tactics against unarmed and armed assaults, multiple opponent strategies, and defence against weapons: including edged, impact, or a firearm. You will feel like a real Xena warrior at the end of the session.”
The classes also double up as a fundraiser for Refuge as 20% of all ticket sales at Xena Self Defence Classes go to the charity. There is also an option to purchase an additional donation ticket of £15 which could give a woman arriving at a refuge the essentials she needs for her first night.
Since the start of lockdown, Refuge, the country’s largest single provider of specialist domestic abuse services, and sole provider of the National Domestic Abuse Helpline, has seen a significant spike in demand for support.
During the initial stages of the Covid-19 crisis, Refuge reported around 50% increase in demand to its Helpline, and a 300%+ increase in visits to its National Domestic Abuse Helpline website.”
Xena Self Defence Classes also help build confidence and no minimum fitness level is required. Led by Gheorghe Husar, Krav Maga Master at Spartans Academy of Krav Maga is one of the leading trainers in the UK.
