About Newcastle Racecourse:
Newcastle Racecourse, located only five miles from the City Centre, has hosted horseracing in High Gosforth Park since 1882. Today, it hosts over 80 race days a year across both Flat and Jumps, making it one of the busiest racecourses in the UK.
Newcastle’s flagship jumps meeting is the Grade 1 BetMGM Fighting Fifth Hurdle, which is run every year at the end of November. On the flat, The JenningsBet Northumberland Plate Festival is the highlight of the summer, headlined by the Northumberland Plate itself, one of the feature handicap races of the British racing calendar. Gainford Group Ladies Day in July is one of the city’s social calendar highlights and is one of the busiest days of the year at the Racecourse.
Since 2019, Newcastle Racecourse has hosted All-Weather Championships Finals Day, held every Good Friday. Worth over £1,000,000 in prize money, the day is the richest all-weather race meeting in Europe and attracts talent from across Britain, Ireland, and France.
In 2016, Newcastle Racecourse underwent a multimillion-pound redevelopment, which saw the installation of floodlights and a state-of-the-art tapeta all-weather racing surface. In November 2019, Newcastle Racecourse made history by hosting the rearranged Group 1 Futurity Trophy, the first time such a race had been run on a synthetic surface in Britain. Qatar Racing’s Kameko took the honours before going on to Classic glory in the subsequent Group 1 2,000 Guineas.
