ICONIC Christmas movie characters are gathering in Newcastle this month (October) to herald the launch of a lavish festive cocktail bar.
On Thursday 12 November the former Leila Lily’s at Grey Street will be re-open for the festive period only as the opulent, glamorous, Christmas at Grey Street.

And Kevin from Home Alone and Hugh Grant’s Prime Minister in Love Actually are among the famous ‘faces’ to be spotted in the windows of the venue in the run up to the opening night.
The launch of Christmas at Grey Street has been timed to coincide with the switching on of Newcastle’s Christmas lights and launch night customers will be greeted by two stilt-walking Nutcrackers and led under a festive archway.
Inside, the green and gold themed venue comprises two drinks-focussed experiences; the main bar and a Christmas movie room which will show a selection of sound off, subtitled movies, with a complimentary mini bag of popcorn for each movie room customer.

But the cocktails are undoubtedly the stars of the show, with each one inspired by a beloved Christmas film, a festive favourite dessert, or a seasonal twist on a classic.
They include To Me, You Are Perfect – a vodka-based strawberry martini, topped with cream and finished with a delicate rose petal, inspired by Love Actually and The Filthy Marg.
Inspired by Home Alone, this festive twist on the classic tequila-based Margarita combines warming cinnamon with a sweet sugar rim and cinnamon stick garnish.
While Tiramisu Martini – inspired by the famous Italian dessert – is a creamy and indulgent Martini finished with a sponge finger and chocolate shavings.
All Christmas-inspired cocktails are available for £9, with a festive happy hour running from 5pm to 7pm offering any two cocktails for just £15. Guests can also enjoy a classic cocktail menu, priced at £8 each or two for £14 during happy hour.
Along with the cocktails there will be a self-service Guinness machine and a selection of Hawkstone products, made famous on tv’s Clarkson’s Farm, including its vodka, gin, cider and beer range.
The venue is owned by leading North East hospitality operator Malhotra Group plc and £1 from every hot chocolate and Aperol Spritz sold will be donated to the venue’s nominated charity for 2026, Children’s Cancer North.
There will be live music on Friday 13 November of the opening weekend, with a mix of live music and DJ sets throughout December before the venue closes for the last time at 6pm on Christmas Eve.
Christmas at Grey Street will only be open from Thursday to Sunday throughout November and seven days a week in December, from noon. Guests are welcome on a walk-in basis only, as the venue will not be taking reservations.
