Newcastle Beer & Cider Festival Returns to Northumbria Students’ Union This Easter

Newcastle’s much-loved Beer & Cider Festival returns this April, bringing more than 100 drinks, live music and charity fundraising to Northumbria Students’ Union. The four-day festival runs from Wednesday 15 to Saturday 18 April and is open to everyone, as organisers take over the venue during the university’s Easter break.

Run entirely by volunteers, the festival celebrates independent breweries, cider makers and local producers. Visitors can explore a wide range of drinks including real ale, craft beers, ciders and a hand-picked selection of local spirits. Alongside regular favourites, festival-exclusive beers and limited-edition brews will also be available.

Food will be available throughout the event, with hot dishes from Habita and snacks from Front Row Biltong and The Yolker.

Entertainment runs across the festival, with acoustic performances and special themed events helping create a lively atmosphere.

Opening night on Wednesday 15 April runs from 6pm to 11pm and includes the announcement of the Battle of the Beers winners, with brewers competing in the Best New World IPA and Best of British Hops categories.

Thursday 16 April sees the festival’s popular Hat Day in support of St Oswald’s Hospice. Visitors are encouraged to show off their most creative headwear, while hospice volunteers will also have hats available for those wishing to take part. Evening entertainment comes from Flat Cap Kev, a well-known figure on the local pub circuit, performing an eclectic set of acoustic covers.

On Friday 17 April, live evening music is provided by Brad Thompson, a familiar performer at festivals and venues across the region, bringing a set spanning rock, pop and dance favourites.

Saturday afternoon, from 12pm to 7pm, features performances from Leslie Roley, whose warm vocals and melodic songwriting blend folk, pop and blues, alongside energetic covers from Rich Gilroy.

Charity remains at the heart of the festival. Each day includes charity-run pub games and a cloakroom supporting good causes, with more than £2,000 raised for charities during last year’s event.

The festival takes place at Northumbria Students’ Union, Sandyford Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 8SB. Both card and cash payments are welcome.

Tickets can be booked in advance and pre-booking is recommended at nclbeerfest.uk.

For beer lovers, cider fans and anyone looking for a lively social event, the Newcastle Beer & Cider Festival offers a welcoming opportunity to discover new drinks, support good causes and enjoy the best of the region’s brewing culture.
