Sharing plates, pre-theatre set menu and Sunday lunch feature on new menus at The Green Room in central Newcastle
Newcastle Theatre Royal has confirmed it will be launching a full food menu in its new bar.
The Green Room, which opened its doors to theatre and non-theatre audiences on Market Street in central Newcastle in September, is already winning new fans with its high-end decor and varied drinks menu, which includes an eclectic wine list, rare gins, and local craft beer producers.
Now, operators at The Green Room say they’re ready to launch its new food offering with menus that will include pre-theatre set menus and sharing boards, stylish twists on nostalgic pub snacks, an eclectic all-day menu and classic Sunday lunches.

The menu, which will be available from Wednesday 5th November at The Green Room, has been devised collaboratively between the venue’s hospitality team and their partners, County Durham dining specialists, Texture. As well as a range of high-end private catering engagements with Texture Luxe Events, chef patron Paul Rowntree already operates successful kitchens at The Fox and Tree in Seaham and the Stapylton Steakhouse in Hawthorn Village, near Easington under the name Texture Luxe. Paul and Hazel Rowntree will lead on food delivery at The Green Room.
Peter Davis, Head of Hospitality at Newcastle Theatre Royal said: “The plan was always to introduce a menu that would be in keeping both with a theatre audience, but also, importantly, for those in central Newcastle looking for great quality formal and informal dining options. Whether it’s a leisurely weekend graze or a night out with friends, a quick bite while shopping, or to get the whole family round the table for a classic Sunday lunch, we have it covered.
“We’re thrilled to have found a North East team at Texture Luxe who share our vision, and who have a fantastic track record of top quality local produce and exemplary delivery. This speedy evolution of The Green Room is in keeping with Newcastle Theatre Royal’s plan of being open to more of the people in Newcastle more of the time.”
Paul Rowntree, chef patron at Texture Luxe said: “This menu has been many weeks in careful planning. Creating diverse and popular dishes that cater for both theatre and non-theatre goers has been an exciting challenge and one we’re proud to say we’ve risen to”.
‘We can’t wait to welcome guests into this exciting new phase for The Green Room and Newcastle Theatre Royal. The proof, of course, is in the pudding…and we think we have a few of our very best on The Green Room menu!”
Dishes will include 16-Hour Slow Braised Beef Brisket, Smoked Salmon Plate, Ravioli of Hot Honey & Taleggio, Wagyu Beef Burger, Truffle Fries and Newcastle Brown Ale Sticky Toffee Pudding.
The Green Room has quickly won fans in central Newcastle with its eye-catching interior design and proximity to the heart of the city. Encapsulating many of the weird and wonderful stories from the rich history of Newcastle Theatre Royal, The Green Room features stunning venue length art installations showcasing magical moments uncovered from within the theatre’s archives.
The stylish space, which is also accessible from inside the theatre for those attending shows, is open daily from 11am to 11pm, with food available to order between midday and 9pm Monday to Saturday, and from midday to 5pm on Sunday.
