Unique musical experience heading to North East

A NORTH EAST musician who has performed at some of the world’s most acclaimed venues is now heading up a new initiative which will allow people to experience the  power of sound.

Newcastle-born performer, composer and teacher Nick Able spent more than ten years working with legendary musician, Ravi Shankar, playing with him around the globe at venues including the Sydney Opera House and the Royal Albert Hall.

And now he is about to enter a new chapter of his distinguished career, with a series of special performances in a range of unique locations across the region and beyond.

Nick – who following Ravi Shankar’s death then worked with his daughter Anoushka for a further ten years – has joined forces with Aaron Parker of The Conscious Self, who teaches people breathwork techniques to help them deal with stress and anxiety and works extensively at wellness events and nature retreats.

The pair have linked with Richmond-based Rebecca Lawrence to form The Numa Collective, which is now planning a number of music and sound bath events.

Rebecca is a well-known yoga teacher, sound expert and singer who will be bringing her expertise to a range of events – with the first being held at Newcastle’s Assembly Rooms on 30 September.

For Nick the events will provide an opportunity to enjoy the music and the experience, but to also allow people to discover the power of sound on another level.

“We are very excited about working together on these events and for people to enjoy what we hope will be a unique experience,” he said.

“Our plan is to move away from more traditional concert halls and hold them in more unusual venues, including a number of cathedrals in the North East and beyond.”

Guests will be able to enjoy a range of music played on instruments such as the sitar and the guitar but at the same time participate in breathwork and be part of the meditative experience created by the sound bath.

Rebecca will use bowls, gongs and chimes to create a state of well-being and relaxation in the audience.

“Sound is one of the only healing mediums that need to work through the body,” she said.

“It helps to create the right frequencies to create harmony in body and mind.”

Following the Assembly Rooms event, The Numa Collective will also be performing at Alnwick Gardens Pavillion on 17 October, with a number of other events in the pipeline for next year.

Tickets cost from £35 to £75 and are available at https://thenumacollective.com/

“We hope this will give people the opportunity to try something for the first time and really enjoy a unique experience, “said Nick
