AN ICONIC American food staple is about to be introduced to the North East for the first time, thanks to a dedicated outlet set to open at STACK Newcastle today (1 September 2026).
While USA offerings such as burgers and fried chicken are widely available and are a huge part of the UK’s fast food scene, the Philly Cheesesteak is less well known.
But that’s all set to change, when Dylan’s Philly Cheesesteaks brings its delicious offerings to Tyneside.
The concept is the brainwave of talented chef Carl “Mitch” Mitchinson, who has returned to his native North East after years spent in top kitchens around the country – including working for Gordon Ramsay.
Mitch ran a number of smokehouses and when he decided to add the Philly Cheesesteak to the menu, it was an instant best-seller.
And that inspired him to dedicate his next venture to the much-loved food stuff – which comprises perfectly cooked and thin slices of beef served in a special roll with cheese on top.

“We’re very excited about bringing this brand new concept to Newcastle,” said Mitch.
“While Philly Cheesesteaks are a kind of fast food, that doesn’t mean there’s any compromise on quality.
“We’re using local suppliers and are having the bread made fresh for us each day and are using rare breed English beef.
“The taste is absolutely incredible.”
Someone else also excited about the opening is Mitch’s 13-year-old son, Dylan, who has given his name to the new venture.
Visitors to STACK Newcastle will be able to enjoy everything from The ‘OG’ Philly Cheese – a roll filled with shaved ribeye steak, caramelised onions, Swiss cheese, cheese ‘wiz’ sauce and crispy onions to the Spicy Philly version which includes spicy cheese, chili flakes, jalapenos and Frank’s hot sauce.
The outlet will also be offering a chicken version and a range of loaded fries, sides and dips.
“We had no hesitation in choosing STACK Newcastle as our first venue,” said Mitch.
“We know we will be alongside other quality brands in a place with a great atmosphere which expects the highest quality.”
Gemma Dishman, Director of Strategy and Development at STACK, added that Dylan’s Philly Cheesesteak showcased the company’s commitment to offering a wide range and eclectic mix of street food.
“We are delighted that Mitch has returned to the North East and is opening his first outlet at STACK Newcastle,” she said.
“Supporting local people and entrepreneurs is very important to us, as is ensuring that our visitors have a memorable and unique experience when they come to STACK.
“We are very excited to welcome Dylan’s Philly Cheesesteak to the STACK family.”
