Glitz, Glam and Style Shined Bright at The 2024 Gainford Group Ladies’ Day

Newcastle Racecourse hosts another unforgettable Ladies’ Day, packed with fashion finesse, elegant headwear, and show-stopping style awards.

The 2024 Gainford Group Ladies’ Day dazzled attendees at Newcastle Racecourse this Saturday, marking another triumphant celebration of fashion, sport, and lively entertainment at Gosforth Park.

The centrepiece of the event was, of course, the Style Awards, where racegoers flaunted their most stylish attire. The competition was fierce, showcasing a vibrant array of elegant dresses, flamboyant suits, and eye-catching headwear. Among the standout outfits was the one that clinched the title of Best Dressed, worn by Eilish Waters from Hexham. Her striking red dress and headpiece, adorned with roses, captured everyone’s attention and earned her the top spot.

The Racecourse saw a sea of bold colours today, as encouraged by this year’s style guide. The day also saw many floral designs and frills, adding a vibrant touch to the grey, overcast skies. Men also stepped up their fashion game this year with impressive suits that ranged from classic to creatively bold. But the headpieces were a particular highlight of the day, showcasing some of the best designs the races have seen.

The fashion took centre stage as attendees arrived, transforming Gosforth Park into a runway of sophistication and creativity. The ambience was electric as guests mingled, posed for photographs, and enjoyed the hospitality throughout the day.

We spoke to some guests who attended the 2024 Gainford Group Ladies’ Day;

Jack Thompson from Newcastle said: “Winning the first race today has been the highlight of my year! This is my first time atNewcastle’s Ladies’ Day, and I’m blown away by how incredible everything is. All the ladies here look amazing today, and the atmosphere is mental. I had a feeling today was my lucky day, and I’m already looking forward to coming back next year. Hopefully,I’ll be as lucky as I was today.”

Skye, Leah, and Caitlin from Ashington said, We’ve beencoming to ladies day for the past 5 years and always have the best time. We all absolutely love getting dressed up, and the vibes throughout the day are amazing. Even though we never seem to win, we always have such a good time.

Leah makes her own fascinators and tells us, love making my own headwear, as it means I know no one else will have the same one as me. I like to find a dress full of bright colours and then make a statement headpiece to match. Its all about being yourself and making sure you feel a million pounds in what you wear.

Natalie from Greencroft told us, “We come every year to Ladies’ Day and really love it. It’s our girly day out together, and we wanted to treat ourselves this year, so it’s the first time we’ve gone VIP and bought a hospitality package. We wanted to go VIP this year as we ARE very important people, haha, but I feel as though it’s much better value for money and really adds to the whole experience. We’ve absolutely loved being here and will be doing it again next year.”

Natalie’s tips for coming to next year’s Gainford Group Lady’s Day would be; “Bring an umbrella, and when you’re picking your horses, pick one with a name that means something to you. It’s a fab day out for the girls, and I would definitely recommend Newcastle Ladies’ Day to anyone looking for something exciting to do with the girls… it’s a great excuse to get them all together.”

Over 14,000 guests joined the celebration, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere and enjoying the day’s activities. The mood was infectious, with cheers ringing out as spectators watched the thrilling races unfold on the track.

The weather played a significant role in the day’s enjoyment, starting with a shower that swept through Gosforth Park. However, racegoers didn’t let the rain spoil their fun, as umbrellas and raincoats added a splash of colour to the scene. The sun then made its appearance just in time for the first race, lifting spirits and setting a delightful tone for the day. Although the sun disappeared behind the clouds later, leaving grey skies, the temperature remained warm with highs of 19 degrees. As the day progressed, the sun shone again, and the resilient crowd stayed enthusiastic throughout, enjoying the races, Style Awards, and the vibrant post-race entertainment from Bongos Bingo.

The main race of the day, ‘The Bees Wing,’ saw a thrilling victory by Borgi, ridden by Ben Sanderson and trained and owned by S.P.C Woods. The crowd erupted in cheers as the horse crossed the finish line, leaving many racegoers in joy and celebration.

The excitement continued into the evening, with captivating performances from the popular Bongos Bingo keeping spirits high. The crowd danced and sang along to the energetic and lively Bongos Bingo DJ set, that capped off another spectacular day at Newcastle Racecourse.

Paul Elliott, Executive Director of Newcastle Racecourse, expressed his delight at the day’s success, saying: “The Gainford Group Ladies’ Day 2024 has once again exceeded our expectations. It was wonderful to see so many people come together and celebrate this special event. The variety of outfits and individual styles displayed this year was truly remarkable, and the passion and enthusiasm that our guests put into looking their best was very evident. We’re already looking forward to welcoming everyone again next year for another day of fashion, racing, and excitement. Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make this day exceptional.”
