Horrible Histories The Concert coming to Darlington & Sunderland in 2026

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Horrible Histories Live on Stage and to celebrate this theatrical milestone Birmingham Stage Company has teamed up with Lion Television to offer Horrible Histories fans a truly special production.

For the very first time, your favourite songs and characters from the BAFTA Award-winning BBC TV series will be appearing live (and dead!) on stage in a special show touring the UK from January!

This unique show is written by the TV series’ writers Ben Ward and Claire Wetton and will be led on stage by the Horrible Histories song master Richie Webb himself, who has written all the songs from the smash-hit BBC TV series.

When William Shakespeare is asked to create the greatest show on earth, he’s already facing a tough challenge (he knows he’s good but is he that good?!) but he’s no idea how much trouble he’ll get from monstrous monarchs like Henry VIII, Queen Victoria and Boudica! Things hot up when Death appears – and now Boudica, Napoleon and Cleopatra all want to take over! Can things get any worse? Of course they can – Loo Man’s in the building too!

Featuring a live band, performing the sensational TV songs, including guest appearances from Charles II, Dick Turpin and a bunch of Vikings that we couldn’t stop barging through the stage door, this is one show you don’t want to miss! Bring your singing voices for what promises to be a truly Horrible show!

Horrible Histories – The Concert is written by Ben Ward & Claire Wetton, songs & music by Richie Webb, directed by Neal Foster, designed by Jackie Trousdale, with lighting by Jason Taylor, sound by Nick Sagar and choreography by Lucie Pankhurst. Executive Producers are Richard Bradley and Simon Welton, for Lion Television, an All3Media Company. The cast is to be announced shortly.

Horrible Histories shows are recommended for ages 5 to 105 (106-year-olds may not like them!).

Horrible Histories books launched in 1993 and are written by Terry Deary, illustrated by Martin Brown and published by Scholastic.
