The Glasshouse is a venue you can always rely on for exceptional entertainment, with its reputation for hosting talented artists from across the globe. Sage 2, with its cosy cabaret-style seating and tiered wraparound balconies, provided the perfect setting for an intimate evening of music. The warm, embracing atmosphere was complemented by the venue’s soft lighting and the glow of a single large lampshade on the stage, setting the mood for what promised to be a special night. As the house lights dimmed, a shared sense of excitement rippled through the nearly full audience, which was a delightful surprise for a mid-week event.
The first act of the evening was Newcastle’s own Callum Pitt, a singer-songwriter known for his heartfelt lyrics and delicate guitar work. Once ready, Callum began his set, and from the first few notes, it was clear that we were in for something special.
Callum’s voice has a warmth to it that feels comforting, almost like a familiar jumper you reach for on a chilly day. His vocal range, particularly his effortless use of falsetto, stood out as a highlight of the performance, adding a layer of depth and emotion to his songs. His delivery was personal and sincere, drawing the audience into each track and making everyone feel like they were part of something intimate.
One of the standout moments of the evening came when Callum introduced his song Piece of Mind. He took a moment to candidly share his struggles with anxiety, reflecting on the ongoing challenge of trying to feel “together.” It was a raw and honest moment, and the audience responded with empathy. Despite the weight of his words, Piece of Mind turned out to be a surprisingly uplifting track, carried by a soothing melody that left the room feeling hopeful and connected.
Throughout the show, Callum’s stage presence was endearing. He spoke to the audience with the ease of someone who has shared his story many times before, yet he retained a sense of vulnerability that made his performance feel genuine. The crowd was clearly charmed by his quiet confidence, and his music only deepened that connection.
Musically, Callum’s performance featured beautiful, tremolo-laden guitar riffs that created a dreamy, atmospheric sound reminiscent of Jeff Buckley. It was easy to lose yourself in the music, creating a peaceful moment of escape. That sense of blissful immersion defined much of the night, with Callum’s delicate guitar work and soothing vocals carrying the audience to a place of quiet reflection.
By the end of his set, Callum Pitt had delivered an engaging and heartfelt performance that truly resonated with the audience. His ability to combine raw emotion with musical talent made the night feel like a shared experience, rather than just a performance.
For those who want to experience more of Callum’s heartfelt music, his debut album In The Balance is available now. It’s the perfect soundtrack for anyone looking to enjoy the solace of a solo listening experience, wrapped up in the warmth and sincerity that defines Callum Pitt’s artistry.
