Kathryn Tickell & Friends – Beyond Kielder Side

• Description:Kathryn and her musical friends celebrate the 40th anniversary of her first album release ‘On Kielder Side’. Kathryn first took up the Northumbrian smallpipes at the age of nine, inspired by her family and the music of an older generation of traditional musicians. The stories of the people that lived and worked in rural Northumberland were part of her childhood and her personal evocation of this is heard in the traditional tunes and songs that she brings to audiences all over the world.

THE HOP

Description: The Hop are an exciting new trio recently graduated from the folk degree at Newcastle University. After meeting in the National Youth Folk Ensemble, they developed an impulsive approach to collaborative composition which has led to a plethora of original tunes. Their instrumental versatility allows the band to explore a wide soundscape that maintains their traditional roots with an innovative flair. Cluny 2.

THE LUKA STATE

Description: The Luka State are Cheshire cats, Conrad Ellis (voice, guitar), Sam Bell (bass, voice), Jake Barnabas (drums) and Lewis Pusey (guitar). Their hometown is famous for salt mining, and not much else. They aren’t in this to simply pick up the paycheck, they are here to make a statement in celebration of a decade that inspired millions and placed Great Britain proudly at the forefront of modern music. The 90s was a time when the summertime was constantly in full bloom and everything seemed possible thanks in part to the amazing bands that were around at the time. The National Anthems, then, are here to remind us why we fell in love with this great decade and the musicians that made and inspired it.
